With the entry of battle royale games like PUBG Mobile and Gareena¡¯s Free Fire, more and more Indian youth -- male and female -- are getting interested in mobile gaming, to an extent that they¡¯re even interested in participating in esports tournaments.?
And this rise has been quite considerable. Recently, Google teamed up with market researchers Niko partners o understand how many new female gamers exist in the current gaming scene. They discovered that the female video gaming community grew by 19 percent, last year.
In 2019, female gamers comprised of 38 percent of the total Asian gaming population which is around 1.33 billion. Looking at a country-wise split, in China, female gamers account for 45 percent while for Japan, South Korea, and Southeast Asia the figure is around 40 percent.
And looking at this upward-going trend, mobile esports streaming platform Game.tv has organised a one-of-a-kind women-only esports tournament dubbed Diva Scrim Wars. The tournament will be on a weekly basis and allow players to compete in Garena¡¯s Free Fire battle royale game.
Game.tv says that this specific series was created with the ¡°Sole purpose of engaging and empowering the growing female gaming community in India by hosting a weekly set of tournaments with prizes ranging from Rs 2,000-20,000 every week.¡±
Rosen Sharma, CEO Game.tv said in a statement, ¡°Indian mobile esports segment is already set for a massive expansion with the rising popularity of mobile esports. We are witnessing increased traction from female casual gamers especially for games such as Free Fire. The tournament allows for improvement in several areas within the gaming ecosystem.¡±
He added, ¡°Aside from encouraging more female participation in gaming and esports events, it also aims to offer financial support through weekly prizes while allowing opportunities to both male and female shoutcasters. In its 13th season of the tournament, we are well-positioned to cater to a larger user base willing to participate from the country.¡±
The registration for the event starts a week before the tournament on CriticalX Discord Server on Game.tv platform. The matches are live-streamed on YouTube currently and will eventually have multi-platform streaming. There are a total of 09 events scheduled. The next season has begun, with matches starting as soon as 21st November 2020.
Hopefully, this is just a beginning of more women-focused gaming events, where women feel safe and don't worry from fear of trolls or any other anti-social elements.
