Data is the next big thing in today's world, and everybody wants a slice of it. Whether it is a user's spending habits, or what he likes to watch, that data can be helpful for brands to make their products better for the masses.
And it looks like the Indian Ministry of IT wants everyone to have access to that data.?

The Ministry of Electronics and IT (aka MeitY) is working on issuing guidelines under the Information Technology Act that will ask agencies and companies to share data collected by them in their course of operation.?
According to a report by ET, A final decision will be taken only after an exhaustive consultation process. According to MeitY the data could be public or non-personal that would be made available to not just government entities, but other private companies too.
The data can be shared free of cost or for a fee, as according to a senior official, who was in conversation with ET, "these big tech companies certainly were the first ones to come up with the idea and do the work, so just like in critical medicines, they should have the right to charge an economic fee for sharing it."
India wishes to break?the value data chain that is currently in the hands of tech giants like Google, Facebook, Apple, Amazon etc. by asking them to share their data.?

According to the official, The new guidelines will also be aimed at ensuring competition in this space and universal access to the database generated from its citizens."Big tech shouldn't be allowed to withhold it (public data) at any cost, but the modalities, of course, will be worked out through discussions like IP in medicines,"
Apart from this, MeitY is also expected to talk about the 'universal access to the database generated from its citizens'.
