Today is a historic day in the field of science as astronauts Christina Koch and Jessica Meir become the first women to conduct the first-ever spacewalk over Earth today outside the International Space Station.?

The spacewalk was conducted to fix a broken part of the power network on the ISS. The walk makes history as in 50-years of walking in space, women stepped out in space without any male crewmate.?
America's first female spacewalker Kathy Sullivan, who stepped out into space 35 years ago said in a statement, "It's good to finally have enough women in the astronaut corps and trained for spacewalking for this to happen."
According to NASA's statement, the walk was originally scheduled to take place more than six months ago, involving Koch and the Nasa astronaut Anne McClain.
But things came in the way when Nasa did not have enough of the correctly sized suits available and ready to use on the station.

NASA administrator Jim Bridenstine said in a statement after watching the event unfold, "We have the right people doing the right job at the right time. They are an inspiration to people all over the world including me. And we're very excited to get this mission underway."
Tweeple also shared their joy and wishes with the astronauts upon watching the spacewalk live.
This was Meir's spacewalking debut, becoming the 228th person in the world to conduct a spacewalk and the 15th woman. It was the fourth spacewalk for Koch, who is seven months into an 11-month mission which also is the longest ever by a woman.
