With WhatsApp updating its terms and privacy, people have started to realize just how bad an idea it is to continue using the messaging platform, with several jumping the ship and looking for alternatives.?
One alternative that several are excited to try is Signal. Even Elon Musk recommended people to switch to Signal. In case you were curious how you can sign up to the platform, here¡¯s a simple how-to guide.?
First, go ahead and download Signal from Google Play Store or Apple¡¯s App Store, depending on your choice of the operating system.
Once downloaded, simply enter your number and click next to receive the OTP. After entering the OTP, it¡¯ll ask you to enter your name and then set up a four-digit PIN for security.
After this is done, you¡¯re now ready to text your friends and invite friends or family to join the platform.?
In case your work or friends group wishes to switch its texts to Signal, all you need to do is create a group in Signal first.?
For doing that, on the home screen of the app, hit the menu button and select ¡®New Group¡¯ After you¡¯ve done this, add people who you know are already on Signal. After this, hit create and the group should be up and running.?
In case you want to make it easier for people who aren¡¯t on Signal yet to switch, just head to the Group settings option on top and tap on ¡®Group Link¡¯.?
Next, turn the feature on and select ¡®Share¡¯. This link can be shared on active WhatsApp groups to allow people to directly join the group. Disable the option when all the members have joined for additional security.?
While everything else sounds convenient and simple to do in terms of shifting from WhatsApp to Signal messenger, the one thing that¡¯s not possible is actually transferring the chats from one group to another.?
Since both the apps have their own unique ways of working, there isn¡¯t a clear way to synchronize chats together. Regardless, it's a small drawback for having a bit more control on your data.?
