A constant question looming over the feasibility of electric vehicles is that of range anxiety - what if the car runs out of charge midway? Given that the network of charging stations is not as widespread as that of fossil fuels and that EVs have only a limited range on a single charge, there might be times when EV owners worry about getting stranded.
Hyundai has now come up with a unique solution to this. ¡®Hyundai Charge Here¡¯, a mobile battery electric vehicle is aimed at being the saviour for such stranded EVs. As can be judged, the new ¡®Charge Here¡¯ concept employs a mobile recharging service through one of Hyundai¡¯s EV.?
Hyundai Ioniq - Hyundai Canada
For this, Hyundai Ioniq has been appointed as the saviour vehicle, which will carry a trunk-mounted converter and two level 3 EV charging cables through which the stranded EV can be charged with 7 kilowatts of power, nearly equivalent to 40 kms of run time. An average charging time for this would be 20 minutes.?
Charge Here will act as an extension of Hyundai¡¯s own roadside assistance program. Currently, the service is only available in Montreal and Quebec City, provided by Hyundai Canada.?
Don Romano, President and CEO of Hyundai Auto Canada mentions ¡°It¡¯s still early days for the adoption of battery electric vehicles by customers in Canada. We often hear from customers hesitant to make the switch to an EV that they are concerned about range. So, with Hyundai Charge Here, we¡¯re giving EV owners peace-of-mind that Hyundai can help them get home or to a nearby charging station.¡±
