The wait for the launch of Chandrayaan 2 is almost over.
After aborting the Chandrayaan 2 mission on July 15, 2019, Indian Space Research Organisation or ISRO has finally revealed that the Chandrayaan 2 mission is now rescheduled to be held on 22nd July 2019 at 2:43 PM. The spacecraft will take off from the second launch pad at the spaceport in Shriharikota in Andhra Pradesh.
On July 15th, the launch was aborted due to a leak detected in the cryogenic stage of the vehicle. According to ISRO, remedial measures have been undertaken, however, it hasn't really gone in-depth with the root cause of the problem. ISRO further stated that it had called off the launch exercising 'abundant caution.'
As per reports, the launch was expected to be conducted in the month of July itself, and the updated launch date was decided on 17th July 2019 evening. The quick reschedule of the launch indicates that the glitch wasn't a very serious one.??
Chandrayaan 2 will be India's second Moon mission and it'll differ from Chandrayaan 1 in various elements. For starters, ISRO's current plans involve a soft-landing lander named Vikram and a robotic rover called Pragyan to reach the surface of the moon while an orbiter will circle the moon in a 100km orbit. There, it would remain active for one lunar day, or about 14 Earth days.
The total cost of the Chandrayaan-2 comes up to Rs 978 crore. The spacecraft will be carrying 14 payloads which also includes a passive payload from NASA.?If the Chandrayaan-2 mission succeeds in landing 'Vikram' on the moon, it'll be the fourth country in the world to do so, after Russia, the United States and China.?
With Chandrayaan 2 ISRO hopes to decipher the secrets of the history of the solar system, as well as to re-confirm the presence of water on the Moon surface.?
