ChatGPT is a peek into what artificial intelligence can do. With simple prompts, users can treat their minds to crisp content that is as good as something written by humans, if not better. While the tool suffers from a few problems, it could become the next Google if all goes well.
Microsoft wants to cash in on the potential of ChatGPT. According to Semafor, Microsoft is "in talks" to invest $10 billion in OpenAI, the company that made the AI chatbot ChatGPT.
While the report claims that this plan should have been finalised by the end of 2022, no progress has been made so far.
Microsoft would get 75% of all OpenAI profits until it makes its money back. Once that stage is passed, Microsoft would own a 49% stake in OpenAI. Other investors would also get 49% and OpenAI's non-profit parent company would be left with 2% ownership.
Windows-maker Microsoft already has some ownership of OpenAI. A report from The Information in October claimed that OpenAI wants more funding from Microsoft. In addition, recent reports claimed that Microsoft wants to revive its Bing search engine with ChatGPT.

Google would naturally be unhappy with this. The company currently?dominates the search engine market space with 90% market share. According to The New York Times, Google is working on chatbots of its own and considers ChatGPT a threat to its business.
Besides ChatGPT, OpenAI is also behind DALL-E, an AI-based application that generates images based on text prompts. Such technologies will dictate innovations that drive the internet in the near-future as artificial intelligence continues to get smarter.
