Netflix US woke up to a rude awakening as the company¡¯s Twitter account got hacked by a hacking group called OurMine, which posted a bunch of messages on Netflix¡¯s Twitter handle. The same hacker group also hacked into Google CEO Sundar Pichai¡¯s Quora account earlier this year.
The messages posted by OurMine seemed relatively benign, if you compare to what Legion did when it recently hacked into a bunch of high-profile Twitter accounts.
As you can see, OurMine was relatively happy drawing attention to Netflix¡¯s Twitter security loopholes and asking followers to visit their website, because they claim they can offer secure vulnerability audits for anyone¡¯s social media, email accounts or entire websites, too.
The self-styled security group, consisting of at least three ¡°white hackers¡± (the type of hackers that like to hack into systems to alert their owners of inherent security flaws present therein), but OurMine seems to be making a habit of hacking into high-profile accounts just to send a message -- that everyone should highly prioritize their online security.
While the?Netflix US Twitter account was being hacked by OurMine -- still being hacked as of 1930 hrs Indian Standard Time -- Netflix¡¯s services were running just fine. How do we know? We tried playing them, just to be doubly sure.
Far from Christmas, it seems to be the season of Twitter hacks! Especially after Legion systematically defaced Rahul Gandhi, Vijay Mallya and some Indian journalists¡¯ Twitter accounts, earlier in the month. Oh well!
UPDATE: A Netflix representative responded to our queries with the following message: "We are investigating".
