While?telecom service providers disappoint us with poor network and call drops, we are forced to switch to brands offering better connectivity and MNP (Mobile Number Portability) feature has been a boon to switch services as they help us keep the same number.?

Sadly, this process has been rather lengthy with it taking as long as 8 days for the switch to complete successfully, something that was a major turn off for many. However, TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority Of India) has made things simple for us.
TRAI has announced a new date for the implementation of the revised MNP rules and regulations which were announced in December last year.
As per the amendments made to MNP in India, now the whole process will take just two days -- in case the switch is happening within the same network circle.
If the switch is happening from one network circle to another, the switch will take about five days.?
While these changes were expected to go into force on November 11, due to an unexpected delay, a new date of December 16 has now been enforced.

Oddly enough, even though things were finalised last year, it has taken TRAI a year to finally put it to implementation. As per TRAI, it has been testing the process for it to not have any glitches or errors and result in a smooth transition.
According to an official statement by TRAI, "As per the discussions taken place during the meetings with Mobile Number Portability Service Providers (MNPSPs) and Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) on 21st October 2019 and 31st October 2019, it is imperative that robust testing of the systems of TSPs and MNPSPs should be completed successfully before migration to the new process so that the subscribers are not inconvenienced due to system related issues."
