OnePlus is gearing to launch the company's first foldable device with the upcoming "OnePlus Open." The device is said to be a premium horizontal foldable that will compete directly with the likes of Samsung.
The global launch is expected to take place on October 19. But before the device is released to the public, the company showed off the OnePlus Open's design in a YouTube video.
The video was made by YouTuber Lewis Hilsenteger who also interviewed OnePlus co-founder and CEO, Pete Lau, while revealing the device. In the interview, the CEO said that OnePlus Open was designed to bring the best of OnePlus and Oppo's technological achievements into a single device.
The video focuses on the phone's new design language that is spectacularly different from what OnePlus has done in the past. The OnePlus Open will have flat sides and a form factor unlike any other foldables, including the Oppo Find N2's broad screen approach to displays.

It is also quite different from how Samsung designs its Galaxy Z Fold series, wherein the outer display has an odd aspect ratio. On the front screen, the OnePlus Open's display glass stretches to the edges of the metal frame, the video revealed.
In addition, OnePlus has retained its iconic Alert Slider on the foldable. This, however, means that the new device might not get an IP rating. In the video, Lau claimed that OnePlus has 600 patents related to foldable technology, making way for a gapless design. He added that OnePlus has 35 patents for the new hinge design.
