OnePlus launched its first foldable device, the OnePlus Open, at a Mumbai event on October 19, 2023. The company claims that the moniker "Open" represents the foldable's form factor, and also the company's commitment to openness. Kinder Liu, the President and COO of OnePlus referred to the OnePlus Open as the "dream smartphone" ahead of launch.
The Chinese technology company's first foldable packs a punch - a folding design, ProXDR displays, and multi-spatial speakers. The smartphone comes with a camera setup that is headlined by Sony's LYTIA "Pixel Stacked" sensor.
The company describes OnePlus Open's design as "industrial minimalism combined with sophisticated elegance." The phone comes in two colours - Emerald Dusk (green) and Voyager Black.
Camera sensors are placed in a light-reflective CD-pattern dial. The OnePlus Open weighs 239 grams and is 5.8 mm thick when unfolded and 11.7 mm thick when folded. The device weighs as much as the iPhone 14 Pro Max (240 grams), the company said.
The "Flexion Hinge" on the OnePlus Open is built on a single-spine architecture, according to OnePlus, making it stand out from a three-part spine that may be found on most foldables. For the hinge, OnePlus used 69 parts as opposed to the conventional 100+, which the company claims makes it lighter.

The camera on OnePlus Open is equipped with Sony's new LYTIA "Pixel Stacked" image sensor (LYT-T808). The 1/1.43-inch "Pixel Stacked" CMOS sensor is able to deliver image quality on par with the 1-inch Sony IMX989 sensor.
The smartphone is made from proprietary cobalt molybdenum alloy and titanium alloy. For the hinge, OnePlus used zirconium-based amorphous alloy. In addition, the OnePlus Open has the company's iconic Alert Slider.
The OnePlus Open has a tri-camera set up ?- with a 48MP Sony LYTIA-T808 "Pixel Stacked" Main Camera with OIS; a 64MP Telephoto Camera with OIS 3X optical, 6X in-sensor zoom, up to 120X Ultra Res zoom; and a 48MP Ultra-Wide Camera.
For selfies, the OnePlus Open has a 20 MP front camera on the main screen, and a 32 MP camera on the cover screen - making the cover screen a better choice for front-facing activities.
