An year after the electric version of Renault Kwid was first unveiled at the Paris Motor Show as a concept under the name K-ZE, the company seems to have finalised the model for mass production. The update comes as Renault has now filed a patent of the production-spec model.
Apart from the specifications mentioned in the patent, several images of the model have made their way online. One look at the patent images and you will know that the electric version of the vehicle looks quite similar to the regular variant. The highlighting difference is an extensive use of LEDs on the electric variant. As a part of this, the new Renault Kwid EV will come new LED headlamps, fog lamps, tail lamps as well as LED lights inside the cabin.

Other changes include different alloy wheels, bumper profile both at the front and the rear as well as styling on the grille enclosure. Blue has been used on it, along with the interiors of the car, specifically the console and the dashboard.
The performance figures mentioned on the patent are much more impressive than the styling differences though. As per the numbers, the Renault Kwid electric packs an impressive 250 kms of range on a single charge. The EV also comes with a dual charging system that works with both commercial as well as standard charging points.

For now, the electric version of the Kwid is only expected to be rolled out in the Chinese market, where the assembly of the vehicle will also take place by the e-GT New Energy Automotive Co. While the electric car¡¯s launch in India has not been announced as of now, it is highly anticipated to enter the Indian market in the next couple of years and compete with the likes of electric WagonR, which has been announced for 2020 by Maruti Suzuki.
With the budget friendly car segment seeing such potential roll outs of electric vehicles, the automotive scenario in India is set to move towards electric drivetrains. For this, the Indian authorities are also making consistent efforts, with the promise of the corresponding infrastructure being set in time for the changing trend. Following suit, Delhi government has recently announced a Rs 100 crore budget for the State Electric Vehicle Fund to promote the use of battery powered electric vehicles in the region.
