Our work-life today has gotten really demanding. So much that we don¡¯t realise how much of our personal life is getting affected. This problem is compounded for senior executives and CEOs of companies, where the stress is definitely greater with more responsibilities on their shoulder.?
Amidst this, we can only imagine how would they be creating the work-life balance that we all strive to achieve? Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella spoke about this in a recent interview.
He stated that he doesn¡¯t really separate work and life, but instead thinks of it as work-life harmony. He said, ¡°I used to always think that you need to find that balance between what¡¯s considered relaxing versus what is working.¡± He revealed that he instead is changing the rules a little bit, ¡°What I¡¯m trying to do is harmonize what I deeply care about, my deep interests, with my work.¡±
He further stressed the importance of applying work-life harmony -- that it not just gave him satisfaction but also energised him. He said that this harmony gave him, ¡°a tremendous amount of satisfaction and energy to go back to work.¡±
And as they say, ¡®great minds think alike¡¯, world¡¯s richest man, Jeff Bezos -- CEO and founder of Amazon -- also agrees with this notion. He had said a similar thing in a 2018 interview stating, ¡°I prefer the word ¡®harmony¡¯ to the word ¡®balance¡¯ because balance tends to imply a strict tradeoff. He also said that ¡°it actually is a circle; it¡¯s not a balance.¡±
He also stated that his behaviour or experience at home helps him be a better person at work, stating, ¡°If I am happy at work, I am better at home ¡ª a better husband and better father. And if I am happy at home, I come into work more energized ¡ª a better employee and a better colleague.¡±
Looks like this is the new year's resolution we desperately need to work on.
