As the 2019 Geneva Motor Show is about to unfold, glimpses of what the car makers have in store keep surfacing on the Internet. One such tweet from Tata Motors made its way online on Sunday, teasing a look of another from its product line-up at the motor show, only, this one is electric.
It was earlier confirmed that the Indian auto-maker will be unveiling the production variants of its 45X under the name of Altroz and the H7X which had not been named yet. The new teaser confirms that the third unit under the limelight will be the electric version of the Altroz.
For those unaware, the Altroz is a premium hatchback which is expected to come with turbocharged engine variants. As for its electric counterpart, it is anticipated to have more interior space and comfort features in comparison, while delivering a range of anywhere in between 200 to 220 kms on a single charge. As the tweet reads (and shows), the Altroz EV will also come with ¡°dual ultra slim LED headlamps.¡±
Tata Motors is aiming for a not-so niche segment with the Altroz, which will be competing with the likes of Hyundai i20 and Maruti Suzuki Baleno. However, the electric variant of Altroz will certainly be the first one of its kind to make it to the Indian market. The Altroz EV, as and when it is launched, will also mark a progressive step for Tata Motors in the EV space. To date, Tata Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra, have been the only major players in the Indian EV ecosystem. None of them, however, have entered the premium hatchback segment as yet.

While the Altroz is expected to make its way to the Indian market by the latter half of this year, its electric version might feature anytime in the early 2020. It can also be assumed that the cost of the electric variant will be considerably higher than the IC engine one.
