Tinder can be a huge help, whether you¡¯re looking for love or just a date for the weekend. Apparently, it can work for more than just love-seeking humans; or at least that¡¯s what wildlife experts think.
Sudan, the last male Northern White Rhino, at the Ol Pejeta Conservancy
A Kenyan wildlife conservatory is attempting to use the dating app to raise awareness for their resident northern white rhino Sudan, the last male of his kind in the world. ¡°I don¡¯t mean to be too forward, but the fate of the species literally depends on me,¡± the rhino's Tinder profile says. ¡°I perform well under pressure.¡± Dubbed ¡°The Most Eligible Bachelor in the World,¡± he¡¯s the focus of an effort by wildlife experts to prevent the species from dying out.
The 43-year-old male rhino and his two female companions are supposedly unable to breed because of a few issues, including old age. The Ol Pejeta Conservancy is looking to use Tinder to generate awareness and raise $9 million to fund research into breeding methods, including in-vitrio fertilization.
¡°We partnered with Ol Pejeta conservancy to give the most eligible bachelor in the world a chance to meet his match,¡± Tinder¡¯s head of communications and marketing Matt David said. ¡°We are optimistic, given Sudan's profile will be seen on Tinder in 190 countries and over 40 languages.¡± Sudan lives at Ol Pejeta with his two females Najin and Fatu, protected by a guard detail on duty 24/7.
¡°The plight that currently faces the northern white rhinos is a signal to the impact that humankind is having on many thousands of other species across the planet,¡± the conservatory¡¯s CEO Richard Vigne said. ¡°Ultimately, the aim will be to reintroduce a viable population of northern white rhino back into the wild, which is where their true value will be realized.¡±
