India is one of the fastest growing car markets in the world, and all we¡¯ve been served are economical hatchbacks. Not anymore. Tata Motors has just taken the wraps off the RaceMo sportscar which it will be making in India under the TaMo sub-brand.

The car will have a limited production run of about 250 cars and will be put on sale in the second half of 2018. In true sportscar fashion, it is mid-engined for better weight distribution and handling. In fact, it has the same 1.2-litre engine that powers the Tiago and Bolt hatchbacks. Here though, the turbocharged engine produces 190 bhp. A six-speed AMT gearbox helps drive the wheel and achieve a 0-100 km/h time of under 6 seconds. Top speed is expected to be around 220 km/h.

It looks stunning too. The low-slung profile and scissor doors add to the appeal and so do the edgy interiors. It also has connected car technologies and Tata in collaboration with Microsoft will give the RaceMo high-tech navigation, remote monitoring and OTA updates!

The car will be the halo offering and will be priced at around Rs 25 lakh. A relative bargain compared to two seat sports cars available currently.
