Apple CEO Tim Cook has reportedly update prime minister Narendra Modi about the company¡¯s iPhone production plans in India, as well as future plans for app development and renewable energy-powered production in the country.
Cook, who was one of 21 US corporate leaders meeting with Modi in Washington on Sunday, apprised him of Apple beginning production of its iPhone SE in Bengaluru.
Apple had begun manufacturing the devices in a Bengaluru factory in May this year. ¡°iPhone SE is the most popular and powerful phone with a four-inch display in the world and we'll begin shipping to domestic customers this month,¡± Apple had told IANS in an email.
To begin with, the company is performing a trial run with a few units of the locally manufactured iPhone SE, before progressing to large-scale production.
¡°There are several app developers from India who are now part of the growing innovative community globally,¡± a spokesperson told IANS.
On another tangent, Apple is also expecting to run its Indian business arm completely on renewable energy by the end of 2017, internal sources said.
Apart from Cook, Google CEO Sunder Pichai, Shantanu Narayen from Adobe, Ajay Banga from Mastercard, Punit Renjen from Deloitte Global and USIBC president Aghi were also present in the group that met Modi on Sunday.
Modi later tweeted, "Interacted with top CEOs. We held extensive discussions on opportunities in India."
