The COVID-19 pandemic has made us all work from home -- even companies that never had work from home policies were forced to send their office desktops packed in huge boxes to employee¡¯s place to help them work from home. And with the way this disease is spreading it doesn¡¯t look like it is going away anytime soon.
Looking at this trend companies have been extending their work from home durations. Some have extended it for a few months, whereas some have extended it till the whole of this year. However, Twitter has surely taken this to the next level.
Twitter in an internal email to its employees has revealed that they would allow employees to work from home permanently, even after COVID-19 pandemic is over. Only people from maintenance staff and other roles that require physical presence would be required to be present at work.
Reported first by BuzzFeed, a spokesperson said in a statement, ¡°We've been very thoughtful in how we've approached this from the time we were one of the first companies to move to a work-from-home model. In the email, Dorsey has also stated that there is no way that the Twitter offices will open by September this year. Moreover, business travel would also be cancelled till things get normal.?
They¡¯ve also announced that they¡¯re going to cancel all in-person events for the rest of the year, while relook at plans for 2021. Twitter has also upped its allowance for work from home supplies to $1000 for all of its staff.
A few weeks back Facebook and Google had announced that employees would be working from home the entire year.?
Working from home surely has its benefits -- for one, you don¡¯t waste time and money on commuting. Secondly, if your workspace is well sorted, you can match the productivity with ease. This would also benefit the company with reduced power output and other perks that they usually offer while being in office.?
