Volvo¡¯s performance electrification brand, Polestar, is soon going to come up with its first ever plug-in hybrid sports car. The Swedish firm has already started assembling the verification prototypes of the same and for now, is calling it the Polestar 1.
As per Polestar, the Polestar 1 will also be the first ever car in the entire Volvo Car Group to feature a carbon fibre construction. Because of this, the company had to come up with new equipment and construction techniques. All this, for 34 verification prototype units which will then be used for the?crash and on-road tests under different weather conditions.

Afterwards, the company plans to shift the entire production equipment to its new factory in Chengdu, China, where it will be used for the production of customer cars. The company promises a total of 200 Polestar 1 vehicles in its first full year of production beginning mid-2019 and bound for its North American market. Priced at $155,000, all the Polestar 1 vehicles have already been sold.
As per the company¡¯s CEO, Thomas Ingenlath, Polestar 1 will act as a ¡°bridge¡± to pure EVs, which might be taken as an indication to the Polestar 2, which is set to be the company¡¯s first fully electric vehicle. For now, the Polestar 1 will use a turbo and supercharged gas V4 engine in addition to its three electric motors.?
