Popular Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi has gone ahead and refreshed its logo for the world this week. The brand announced this with an idea to portray a fresher identity with the world.?
Yes, I know what you're thinking, there¡¯s barely any difference between the original logo and the most recent one. The only major difference is the square orange has now been slightly rounded around the edges (that also looks oddly similar to Samsung¡¯s icons on their Android phones).?

This might seem like an April Fool's prank but surprisingly it isn't. Xiaomi calls it its organic philosophy along with the design concept of ¡®Alive¡¯.The designer of this (not so) strikingly new logo is Kenya HARA, a professor of Musashino Art University who is also the president of Nippon Design Centre.?
Xiaomi, in a press release, has explained how the designer managed to create this logo from scratch, "Adopting a softer, rounder contour on the corners of the previously squared logo, along with redesigned ¡°MI¡± typography, the new logo is now more aesthetically pleasing. Corporate colour remains orange to continue to convey the liveliness and youthfulness of Xiaomi. Black and silver will also be used as supplemental colours to accommodate high-end product line applications."?

For getting the edges right, Kenya HARA has made use of a ¡®superellipse¡¯ mathematical formula while creating the logo. The release further explained, ¡°While there are infinite options between a square and a perfect circle, the designer achieved a visually optimal dynamic balance by adjusting the variables in the formula. Using n=3 struck the perfect balance between a square and a circle, epitomizing the core aspect of ¡°Alive¡±, resulting in the brand new Xiaomi logo we see now. Compared with a right-angled object, a circle is a shape that is more agile, which is the perfect representation of Xiaomi¡¯s flexibility, relentlessness and will to move forward."?
People on Twitter weren't buying this, and their reactions were truly hilarious.
Some showed a designer's perspective to the changes in the logo while some stuck with classic memes to express their reaction.
