Twitter is rolling out its "unmentioning" feature to all users. Tired of being dragged into long threads about pointless banter? Say no more, the new "leave this conversation" feature on Twitter will let users exclude themselves from any conversation on the platform.
During the announcement on Monday, Twitter said that the "unmentioning" feature is designed to let users "take control of your mentions and leave a conversation," especially you no longer want to be included in.
The feature will work across all platforms and devices, be it Android, iOS, and desktops. "Sometimes you want to see yourself out... Take control of your mentions and leave a conversation with Unmentioning, now rolling out to everyone on all devices," Twitter wrote on Monday.
The process is quite simple. Tap Twitter's three-dot menu on any Tweet. A new option called "leave this conversation" should be available to you.
If you tap on that option, the following things will happen - your username will be untagged from the original tweet and all replies, people cannot mention you again in that conversation, and you can stop notifications about the entire conversation.

Once you proceed to confirm your removal from the conversation, your username will be untagged from all Tweets in that thread. Other users will not be shown your username and no responses will include one's tag.
Twitter wants to curb the potential of abuse on the platform, and this feature could come in handy. The company is also testing a "Safety mode" that blocks trolls from infiltrating your mentions.
