The main point of the Google Assistant is to provide some convenience when carrying out mundane everyday tasks.
Unfortunately, Google has realised the feature can be a security risk, and as such is disabling one of its tools that lets you verbally unlock the device.
Until now, users could unlock their device completely using the Voice Match command for the Google Assistant. Now, Google has silently disabled the feature on the Pixel 3 and is in the process of doing it for other Android devices. The company has limited it to opening the Assistant interface from the lock screen with just a few functionalities.

Of course, this adds an extra step for Android users, but it's certainly more secure. After all, someone with a similar voice to yours would otherwise be able to unlock your device, or even someone with a recording of you saying those words.
Google didn't release the feature with the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3XL when it launched them a few months ago. Now, they've announced they're doing away with it on other Android devices.
The Moto Z and Pixel XL are losing the function with the newest Android 9.27, and other devices will follow suit soon.
