During the COVID-19 pandemic, most of us have been working from home and one app that most people are using these days is the Zoom video conferencing app. The app, however, has been surrounded by controversies, with questions on the app¡¯s security aspect.
However, despite that, yesterday, Zoom app makers announced that the app has managed to grow to over 300 million active users. Just during the first week of April, Zoom reported over 200 million active users.
The app has received phenomenal success during COVID-19. To put things into perspective, during December, the app had just 10 million users -- a decent number, but nowhere close to the 300 million users that they¡¯re dealing with today.
Zoom also mentioned that the figures are of daily meeting participants that basically means, if you¡¯ve had four meetings on Zoom today, then you¡¯re counted four times. Still, the number of users is massive.
This was revealed alongside the unveiling of a new version of Zoom to the people -- Zoom 5.0, that primarily focusses on security, offering better encryption, include passwords for calls as well as a security icon to keep tabs on the meeting.
Zoom achieved great success primarily because of its streamlined method of signing up on a call. Just download the Zoom app, click on the meeting link, enter your details, like name, email ID and you¡¯re pretty much sorted.
In India however, things might look a little different for the video conferencing app, as recently, Indian ministry ordered for their government employees to not use Zoom app for calls due to security concerns. Even globally, several companies are asking its employees to make the switch to Microsoft Teams or Google Meet for work-related calls.
