Reported first by The Guardian, this is according to a study conducted by researchers from Edinburgh University, where scientists discovered that individuals who had contracted both SARS CoV-2 and influenza viruses were four times more likely to need ventilation support and 2.4 times more likely to die than if they just had COVID-19.
This was based on an analysis of over 305,000 hospitalised patients suffering from the novel coronavirus. A total of 6,965 patients were found to also get the influenza virus. These patients were those who experienced more severe outcomes.?
