With vaccinations drives against Covid-19 being conducted across the world, new guidelines have emerged on the safe practices to be followed once people get vaccinated.?
As per those, people who are fully vaccinated against Covid-19 and donĄ¯t have any symptoms of the disease donĄ¯t have to be quarantined even if theyĄ¯re exposed to someone with the disease.
The guidelines have been released by the?Centers for Disease Control and Prevention?recently. They instruct people, vaccinated or not, to follow the general public health guidelines, like wearing a mask.
A person is considered to be fully vaccinated after two weeks of getting their second dose of a?two-dose vaccine?or a dose of a single-dose vaccine. The new guidelines state that it is not mandatory for such people to quarantine even if they are exposed to the virus on the assumption that they are safe against the virus.
However, since none of the vaccines offer a 100 percent immunity against Covid-19, the guidelines urge such people to keep a track of any symptoms associated with the disease. The guidelines say that even the vaccinated people should get tested if they experience any Covid-19 symptoms.
Since it is still not clear as to how long the vaccines are effective in a host, CDC recommends that those vaccinated should only skip quarantine during the three months after their last dose. The recommendation is in line with the clinical data available as of now.
The same recommendations have also been made by CDC for people who have already been sick with Covid-19. Such people presumably have some level of natural immunity against the disease and hence do not require a quarantine for the three-month period unless they develop symptoms.
With the global population increasingly getting vaccinated against Covid-19, more research is yet needed to establish if or how these people can contract or spread the disease to others. For now, the risk associated with this is small and that is what the updated guidelines by CDC recommend for the people in the US.
