Wondering what a solar eclipse is? In simple terms, when the Moon comes between the Earth and Sun, its shadow falls on Earth. This shadow creates a dark inner circle called the "umbra" which blocks out all the sunlight. The "penumbra" is the outer ring which blocks some parts of the sunlight.
During a total solar eclipse (like the one set to happen tomorrow) - the entire solar disc is covered by the Moon while the partial and annular solar eclipses, only some parts of the Sun are covered.
