In yet another viral post, US space agency NASA has shared a beautiful capture of the night sky on Earth. What makes it more interesting is that the stunning moon captured in the image will mark the end of 2020.
The now famous 'Wolf Moon' marked the 13th and final full Moon of 2020 as per NASA. The space agency on Instagram wrote:? "Aaah-ooooooh! It¡¯s a Wolf Moon to end the year Beginning tonight, Earth¡¯s BFF, the Moon will be appearing in the night sky in full view." Check out the stunning capture by the space agency below.
?NASA also explained the reason behind the name of the Moon. As per the agency, Wolf Moon is not the only name given to?such a full Moon?as different cultures have called it by different names of over the years.? ?
The term 'Wolf Moon' in particular, was coined by the Algonquin tribes that belonged to the region which is now the northern and eastern United States. The tribe?named it the Wolf Moon to denote the packs of wolves that howled hungrily outside the villages during winter.
Such natural references were often taken to denote cosmic occurrences by humans throughout history.?Another name of such a full Moon, for instance, is 'Ice Moon'. By month, such a full Moon in December is also called the Cold Moon.?People also?wear celebratory celestial garb to mark the occasion.?
NASA says that the Wolf Moon?will be visible for about the next three days. It advises people to "Stay warm, but take advantage of these early nightfalls to step outside, look up, and share the beauty of our sky with your pack."
What better way to end 2020, right?
