Mothers are frequently the first teachers a child has. From learning how to walk to learning how to talk, infants are often under their mother¡¯s care until they get on their feet and embark on their own journeys. This dynamic between a mother and a child is not just exclusive to humans but is also seen in animals.??
A video winning hearts on the internet shows how this is true even for elephants. IAS officer Supriya Sahu, also Tamil Nadu¡¯s Additional Chief Secretary of Environment, Climate Change, and Forests, shared a video of a herd of elephants crossing a narrow road going through the forest area.
In the clip, an elephant mama is seen helping her calf cross the road. The mother towers over her child as they stand at one end of the road. The child squirms around the mother elephant¡¯s legs and gets as close as possible before embarking on the short journey to the other side of the road.?
The big elephant slowly crosses the road as it seems to be teaching her child how to cross. They finally reach the end of the road safely when a glimpse of a car gets caught in the video, hence explaining the little calf¡¯s reason for being so visibly scared.?

The IAS officer captioned the video, ¡°Mother elephant seems teaching her baby how to cross the road. A sad reality.¡± People online were gushing over the adorable video and also expressed their concerns. One user wrote, ¡°Heart touching.¡± Another user seemed concerned about the state of the wildlife that has to teach such human characteristics to their young ones, ¡°What is the remedy? How can we create safe environment for our wild? How can we prevent or at least minimize man-wild conflict?¡±
One more user chimed in, ¡°Teaching for safety! Moreover, need to consider wildlife crossings while designing road infrastructures.¡±
One observer was captivated by the gentle manner in which the elephant mother taught her calf to cross a road: "A mother is the first and most important teacher of her child, no matter what specie."??
One commenter noted that such evolution in learning road safety is not just privy to humans but can also be demonstrated by animals, as shown in the video: "evolution is constant not only for mankind."??
Another user was more concerned about the cars on the road, which were frequently used by animals: "People should drive slowly in forest area and no rash driving."??
