Colleen Hoover's book Verity is getting the Hollywood treatment. Despite the controversy surrounding It Ends With Us, Amazon MGM Studios is going big with this psychological thriller. With a dream team including Anne Hathaway and Michael Showalter, the dynamic actor-director duo behind Amazon's The Idea of You, the feature will reportedly head to theatres, ditching the convenient direct-to-OTT release. Nick Antosca has penned the final script, following earlier drafts by Hillary Seitz, Angela LaManna, Will Honley, and April Maguire.
In this upcoming adaptation, Anne Hathaway will star as Verity Crawford, a famed author struggling to finish her novel after her car crash that left her badly injured and incapacitated. This prompts her husband, Jeremy, to look for a ghost author. His search ends when he finds Lowen, a struggling writer, to complete the series in the book in exchange for a huge sum of money. Lowen accepts the offers but gets caught in Verity's twisted world, hinting at her mysterious past. The unfinished manuscript makes Lowen question: Is Verity a brilliant author or a deranged psychopath?
Colleen Hoover also announced the development on her Instagram account and she couldn't be more thrilled!?¡°Verity is coming to theaters and I am so excited for this cast and the script and the director and the whole team bringing this to life. Cannot wait. More coming soon!¡± she said.?
Anne Hathaway's fans are divided over her new role as and in Verity. Concerns surround Hoover's depiction of domestic violence, toxic relationships, and infertility, with some arguing it romanticises gruesome topics.
"Oh god¡ ANNE U CAN STILL GET AWAY," one user insisted.
?Another fan mentioned, "ANNE LOOK AT ME YOU ARE BETTER THAN THIS."
"Colleen Hoover doesn¡¯t deserve this attention anymore after the last fiasco with her other film," a third user wrote.?One fan noted, "Anne you are so much better than these faux feminist and fanfiction cash grabs please drop this and get to work on princess diaries 3."
?However, some fans also argued that Anne as Verity would do justice to the gripping thriller.
It Ends With Us, starring Blake Lively, Justin Baldoni, and Brendan Sklenar, hit theatres in August and is now streaming on Netflix. The film's release was marked by many controversies. Critics argued that the movie downplayed domestic abuse and romanticised toxic relationships.?
