The entertainment industry of South Korea has been hit with many controversies - the top being involving former NCT member Taeil and K-drama actor Kim Soo Hyun. While fans have making sure to not keep any association with these two men; an unexpected figure has got dragged and become the center of online controversy.
Who is that person? He is a young trainee who is part of the new survival show "B: MY BOYZ" set to be launched by SBS. The show is aimed at forming a global boy group with contestants hailing from Korea, Japan, China, Thailand, and other countries.
On May 3, the show began revealing contestant profiles through social media, teasing fans with sneak peeks. Among them, one trainee in particular¡ªMoon Jaeil¡ªhas gone viral, but not for the reasons he might have hoped.
After his photos and name were shared, especially on TikTok, netizens couldn't help but draw connections between Jaeil and the two celebrities. His name, Jaeil, sparked immediate reactions, as it closely resembles the nickname netizens mockingly used for Taeil during his recent scandal¡ªa play on words combining "Taeil" and "jail."
Adding to the attention, many even felt that the trainee bore a striking resemblance to actor Kim Soo Hyun. Some fans expressed sympathy, fearing that the contestant's potential and individuality might be overshadowed by these unfortunate comparisons.
While the exact premiere date for B: MY BOYZ has yet to be confirmed, tweets from the official account suggest it will air sometime in June. The show will feature 30 contestants vying to debut as the next generation of idols, competing in areas such as vocals, performance, and producing. Current top idols will serve as judges, helping to select the final lineup.
