BLACKPINK singer Ros¨¦ has been the talk of the town with her song with Bruno Mars Apt going viral everywhere. While she has released her album 'Rosie' on December 6, 2024, she went on to release the highly anticipated performance video for "Number One Girl" on February 12. The official music video for the track had already been released in November 2024.
However, this new performance video introduced a different artistic interpretation, but it went on to spark a wave of mixed reactions online. While her fans and BLACKPINK fans called BLINKs loved it, many others criticized the execution of the dance, especially after seeing the way how trained professionals danced the same choreography.
Filmed at Espaces d'Abraxas in Noisy-le-Grand, France, a location recognizable to fans of The Hunger Games series, the video saw Ros¨¦ embrace a more contemporary dance style with her sad expressions. She performed solo first, before she was joined by ballet dancer and model Mickael Lafon, who engaged with her in a dramatic and interpretive duet.
Following the release of the video, it quickly became a trending topic on social media, but for different reasons. Many on X (formerly known as Twitter) shared clips from the performance, breaking it apart.?
Many fans praised Ros¨¦ for stepping outside her comfort zone with many saying contemporary dance has always been her style but hardly got to explore it with BLACPINK. Many even admired the raw emotion and storytelling within the choreography, calling it a beautiful and poetic interpretation of the song's themes.
?
However, on the other side, many found the choreography to be awkward and poorly timed. Netizens stated that it did not fully align with the song's rhythm and also felt that Ros¨¦'s movements lacked precision, which made the performance feel less refined. Others even questioned whether the contemporary approach suited the song at all.
In on way or another, it lead to fan wars to being on social media, which was not even a?surprising?outcome anymore.
The album marked Ros¨¦'s first solo release since parting ways with YG Entertainment in 2023. The 12-track album delved into pop-punk and alternative pop while lyrically, it reflected on themes of fame and heartbreak, offering an intimate look into Ros¨¦'s experiences navigating her early twenties.?
Taking an active role in its creation, she co-wrote and co-produced Rosie alongside a diverse group of collaborators, including Bruno Mars, Carter Lang, and Omer Fedi.?
