A viral video has surfaced showing boxer Saweety Boora assaulting her husband, kabaddi player Deepak Niwas Hooda, inside a police station in Hisar, Haryana. The incident, which reportedly occurred on March 15, gained widespread attention after the footage went viral on Tuesday.
According to reports, Boora had already initiated divorce proceedings against Hooda, accusing him of domestic violence and dowry harassment.
In the widely circulated video, Boora is seen lunging at Hooda, grabbing him by the throat, and physically attacking him while engaged in a heated argument. Family members present at the police station had to intervene and separate the couple.
Eyewitnesses say the altercation escalated quickly, with both sides exchanging heated words. The video has sparked a major debate online, with reactions pouring in from sports fans and the general public.
Boora revealed that she had approached the Hisar SP on March 11, expressing her wish to end her marriage with Hooda. She claimed she had submitted a list of her belongings but received no response from authorities for over a month.
¡°I informed the Hisar SP that I no longer want to live with him. I don¡¯t want any money¡ªjust a divorce and my belongings. Despite submitting a partial list of my items, no action has been taken. I appeal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for justice. I had hoped for a peaceful resolution, but things have only worsened,¡± Boora was quoted as saying.
Hooda, on the other hand, claimed that he was summoned to the police station on March 15 and was physically assaulted during questioning.
¡°During the interrogation, Saweety Boora and her father started using abusive language and then attacked me physically in front of the police officers. I suffered two injuries. Her maternal uncle, Satyawan, was also present,¡± Hooda told the media.
Boora and Hooda tied the knot in 2022, and both have been celebrated athletes in their respective sports. Boora, a former world champion in the middleweight category, has brought pride to Indian boxing. Hooda, known for his achievements in the Pro Kabaddi League, is also a recipient of the Arjuna Award.
