The first reviews for Captain America: Brave New World are out, and it's safe to say they're all over the map. Some critics praised the film, saying it was better than what they expected, while others dubbed it a big disappointment.
The film's plot has been criticized for being too complicated, with some choppy action sequences. However, the cast has still delivered solid performances, with Anthony Mackie and Harrison Ford garnering widespread praise. As we write this, the movie sits at 52% on Rotten Tomatoes, indicating a divided critical response.
The highly anticipated Captain America: Brave New World has finally premiered, and critics are weighing in with their thoughts on the latest Marvel installment. Following a Tuesday screening, reviews have begun pouring in on X, revealing a divided reaction from critics. Despite the mixed reviews, two standout performances have emerged as a consensus among critics: Anthony Mackie's compelling portrayal of Sam Wilson, aka the Falcon, and Harrison Ford's intriguing take on Thaddeus Ross, aka the Red Hulk.
Herb Scribner, entertainment reporter for The Washington Post, called the Julius Onah directorial, calling it an "absolute blast." He noted that it felt like a true MCU movie, where previous storylines and character developments actually mattered again. "Mackie rocks, Ford is great," he added.
Jake Hamilton, a top show business journalist, called the film "kinda awesome," adding that despite a script in need of "polishing," the film felt like classic Marvel fun.
Film critic Clarence Moye shared, "Captain America: Brave New World isn't as bad as I feared it would be (extremely low expectations), but it's not a good movie. Everything is over-explained, very little is actually shown. This feels custom-made for Disney+ and isn't the remedy we needed for Marvel Studios films."
David Ehrlich of Indiewire, meanwhile, wasn't at all impressed, and slammed the film, calling it "very, very bad". He added, "I know people wanted the MCU to go back to basics, but i'm not sure a direct sequel to The Incredible Hulk is what anybody had in mind."
Another individual wrote, "I hate to say this but #CaptainAmericaBraveNewWorld was a big disappointment. Felt very empty & lacks the heart of a Captain America movie. The action is edited to death with thousands of cuts. The dialogue is very cheesy. Weird looking green screens. Undercooked villains. Don't expect a lot of Red Hulk either. This felt like it was supposed to be a Hulk movie that just shoehorned Sam as the lead."
As per Marvel.com, Captain America: Brave New World kicks off with Sam Wilson, played by Anthony Mackie, getting entangled in a complex international incident after a meeting with the newly elected U.S. President Thaddeus Ross, portrayed by Harrison Ford. As the story unfold, Sam must uncover the truth behind a sinister plot that threatens to throw the world into chaos.
The film will be released in the United States on February 14.?
