Chris Evans is reportedly returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). According to reports, Evans will be seen in Avengers: Doomsday in some capacity. Directed by Russo Brothers, the film marks Robert Downey Jr.'s return to the MCU as Doctor Doom. The film is currently scheduled for release on May 1, 2026.
According to a report by The Wrap, Chris Evans will rejoin the MCU in Avengers: Doomsday, but details related to his role remain scarce. The upcoming project explores multiple timelines and universes, accommodating the way for a massive reunion of various Marvel characters, alongside new additions.
In a surprising move to MCU fans, Chris Evans recently revisited his role as Johnny Storm in Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman starrer Deadpool and Wolverine.?Evans, of course, is best known for his legendary portrayal of Captain America, but his recent return hinted he is open to playing more Marvel characters.
Deadline, meanwhile,?reported Anthony Mackie will reprise his role as Sam Wilson, aka Captain America, in an upcoming Marvel project. Notably, Evans' Rogers passed the iconic shiled to Wilson in Avengers: Endgame.
Given Wilson's established role, Chris Evans' return as Captain America seems less likely. However, it's still possible that Evans could reprise his role as Steve Rogers in a different capacity.
First Robert Downey Jr, and now Chris Evans, Marvel seems to be bringing their iconic characters back, despite giving them an honourable farewell in Avengers: Endgame.
Following a string of recent flops, the studio may be attempting to recapture the magic of its earlier successes by revisiting beloved characters and storylines. However, MCU fanatics are not fans of Marvel's strategic move to tap into nostalgia, without working to find fault in their current stars.?

The upcoming film will see Robert Downey Jr. as Victor von Doom/Doctor Doom, an alter ego of his beloved Tony Stark/Iron Man character. The movie was initially titled Avengers: The Kang Dynasty?but made a major change after replacing Kang with Doctor Doom as the main villain. Filming is set to begin in the second quarter of 2025 in London.
The film will also see Benedict Cumberbatch returning as Doctor Strange, while Tom Holland's Spider-Man character is also confirmed to have a cameo appearance.?
