The death of the elephant who was run over by a train in West Bengal sometime ago, created mass outrage. The video went viral and people questioned authorities¡¯ preparedness to save and protect wildlife that crosses rail tracks to get from one part of the forest to another. And that was not an isolated case.
IFS officers on Twitter mentioned how it regularly happened to animals like elephants, who got struck down by fast-moving trains and died consequently.
Now, IFS Parveen Kaswan has shared another video of a jumbo being gravely injured after being hit by a train. The time and location of the incident have not been mentioned but the video is going viral and is a reminder of the incident in Bengal, that occured months ago. The footage was shared with the caption, 'As I always say do we have any future for these mega-herbivores in human scheme of things. I know it will make you sad but this video shows a reality of modern times¡¯.
In the video one can see a baby elephant lying on the train tracks while some people surround it. The elephant seems to be helpless. It is so injured that it cannot even get up. The elephants writhes and howls in pain as onlookers watch.?
This is just another example of how unprepared humans are when it comes to saving the wildlife.?
Train tracks run through forests, a habitat for the elephants. When we have invaded their space for our development it is our responsibility to make sure that they do not pay the price for it.?
