Fueling more excitement for the news, for the first time in the history of the FIFA World Cup, the tournament's final will feature a Super Bowl-style halftime show, marking a major shift in football's grandest event, confirmed FIFA President Gianni Infantino.
According to an AP report, the British rock band Coldplay, led by Chris Martin, is working with FIFA to set up the first Super Bowl-style halftime show at the World Cup final.
Taking to his Instagram, Infantino shared the post, which read, "This will be a historic moment for the FIFA World Cup and a show befitting the biggest sporting event in the world."
FIFA will reportedly set up a 'takeover' of Times Square, as named by its president, Gianni Infantino, for the final weekend of the tournament. In his Instagram post, he said the first-ever halftime show at a FIFA World Cup final in New Jersey, in association with Global Citizen.
However, he did not clarify Coldplay's performance in the post but mentioned that Martin and Coldplay manager Phil Harvey would be involved in booking other artists. This has raised more speculations among the fans.
Infantino went on to mention that he wanted to thank Chris Martin and Phil Harvey of Coldplay, who are going to work with them at FIFA to finalize the list of artists who will perform during the halftime show and at Times Square.
Moreover, earlier in 2016, Coldplay performed at the Super Bowl halftime show along with popular artists including Bruno Mars and Beyonc¨¦ as special guests.
The first match of the FIFA World Cup is set to begin on June 11, 2026, in Mexico City at the Estadio Azteca. As per current reports, the tournament will consist of 104 matches across 48 national teams.
