Chinese actress Zhao Lusi has made a return to the public eye, a month after her shocking health scare and subsequent revelations of abuse.?On January 25, she made her first public appearance since then at an event in China, and it was a whirlwind emotional affair.
Zhao Lusi, known worldwide for her performance in the critically acclaimed C-drama Hidden Love, was hospitalised in December after her health deteriorated on the sets of her upcoming drama. After the visuals showing Lusi being taken to the hospital in a wheelchair went viral online, the actress' friend revealed she had been diagnosed with aphasia, a disorder that affects a person’s ability to understand and use a language. The friend also accused Lusi’s former manager of physically and verbally abusing her five years ago. Following her friend's post, the 26-year-old star also broke her silence and revealed experiencing depressive episodes after suffering abuse at her previous company.
Zhao has been sharing her recovery process with her fans via Weibo and Instagram. She has now been doing better and arrived at the Viee FM event in style on Saturday, riding in on a horse-drawn carriage, and was assisted by another attendee as she got out of the cart and made her way to the stage.
The actress is still recovering from her health issues, as she needed to use a cane at one point, but she seemed to be in good spirits and was greeted with love and support from the crowd. She even hinted at the challenges she's faced but chose to focus on the positive and look forward to the new year, saying, "Let's all leave all the troubles and bad things in year 2024 and welcome year 2025.".
At one point, she was also seen affectionately scolding an emotional fan for crying and asked them to focus on the new things in the new year.
In a recent interview with a Chinese news magazine, Zhao Lusi raised awareness against the stigmatisation and trivialisation of mental health.
She said, "I’ve noticed that many people tend to view symptoms like headaches or stomachaches as physical ailments, yet they’re often unwilling to spend money on treating psychological issues. Instead, they try to deal with their emotions on their own, which eventually leads to a buildup and an emotional outburst."
"If you truly feel that your environment is causing you stress or the people around you are making you uncomfortable, you should speak up. Let them know that you’re ill and ask if they could avoid making those kinds of jokes (about depression and mental health), saying those things, or acting that way. Just be bold and protect yourself. It's perfectly okay to do so," the actress added.
Meanwhile, on the acting front, Zhao Lusi will next be seen in the modern romance drama Almost Lovers. She is also known for her work in Dating in the Kitchen, The Story of Pearl Girl, The Romance of Tiger and Rose, and Gen Z.?
