If you're a longtime fan of Hospital Playlist, you probably felt your heart do a little happy dance during Episode 2 of Resident Playbook. And, in case you have yet to watch the premiere episodes, we have a surprise for you: not only a Hospital Playlist cameo, but we also got a major life update of a leading character.
From the moment Resident Playbook dropped, there were already whispers about cameos from Hospital Playlist characters. And in just episode 2, Ahn Eun Jin made a surprise cameo as Chu Min Ha. The clues were already there but subtle, and the latest episode has finally given fans much to cherish.
In Hospital Playlist, Chu Min Ha— a second-year resident and later chief resident in obstetrics and gynecology— was in an unrequited love with Yang Seok Hyeong (played by Kim Dae Myung), an assistant professor of obstetrics and gynecology. After a failed marriage, Yang had his reservations, even though he secretly harbored feelings for her. But then he finally came around, and their marriage was teased in the finale of Hospital Playlist Season 2.
In Chu's Resident Playbook cameo, it was confirmed that they're finally married, as she was seen talking to Yang on the phone, addressing him as 'yeobo,' a Korean term used to address one's spouse and generally means 'honey,' as she professed her love.
Their marriage was confirmed in the first episode of Resident Playbook itself, as there was mention on the official “Yulje Hospital” website. And now, seeing her pop up on screen just made it all real.
It wasn’t just a random fan service moment. Her appearance added a thread of continuity between Hospital Playlist and Resident Playbook, tying together the worlds in a way that felt natural and heartfelt. Plus, for a show that centers around the OB-GYN department and the very real issue of South Korea's declining birth rate, it’s kind of poetic to have Min-ha—an OB-GYN herself—make an appearance, now seemingly thriving in her personal and professional life.
Additionally, Ahn's character herself went through testing times of self doubt during her residency period, and seeing the new residents, especially Oh I Young, played by Go Youn Jung, was a sweet ode to her own days as a struggling resident.
Resident Playbook dives into the lives of OB-GYN residents and staff at Jongno Yulje Medical Center. At the center is Oh Yi Young (Go Youn Jung), a first-year resident learning to navigate the intense, emotional world of childbirth. She’s joined by Um Jae II (Kang Yoo Seok), Pyo Nam Kyung (Shin Si Ah), and Kim Sa Bi (Han Ye Ji). Together with their mentors and fellow staff, they tackle long shifts, tough cases, and the deep bonds that form in between.
