Boji is an unusual passenger on Istanbul's public transport these days. A street dog, who has become a regular sight on ferries, buses and metro trains, is now an internet sensation.?
He is a devoted commuter and loves going on long rides on public transport, as long as 30 km on a regular weekday.?
According to a Reuters report, Istanbul municipality officials record Boji's trips with a microchip and say he drops by at least 29 metro stations in a day.?
Two months ago, the golden-brown fur canine with dark eyes and floppy ears caught everyone's attention in Turkey's second-largest city.?
"We noticed a dog using our metros and trains and he knows where to go. He knows where to get out," said Aylin Erol, from Metro Istanbul. "It's like he has a purpose."
Based on the data collected from his tracking device shows that historic tram lines are the dog's favourite mode of transport but he is also a frequent subway commuter.?
Boji respects public transport rules and waits for disembarking passengers before hopping on the train.?He also enjoys travelling on the middle part of a subway carriage or boji in Turkish - hence the name which officials gave him.
"You take the train and, suddenly, you see Boji. And look at him. He lies, just like this. You just smile and catch the moment, really. This is what Boji evokes for Istanbulites. He also reminds us that we can still enjoy Istanbul as we rush about," added Erol.
We hope Boji continues to enjoy his rides!
