Travelling on a cruise ship and that too for free - Christine Kesteloo has a life that will make most of us envious.?
Christine, from Vlissingen, Netherlands, spends half of each year cruising as a 'wife on board'.?Her husband works on cruise ships as a staff chief engineer, which gives her the privilege to spend months onboard.?
Christine?used to be a cruise and travel director, but unfortunately, lost her job in 2020 due to the COVID-19?pandemic. But that hasn't stopped?her living the cruise life.
It means she doesn't have to pay to live on her floating home, and Christine and her husband's weekly costs come in at about ?65 (Rs 6,500) a week.??
In her piece for the Business Insider, Christine compared her current situation to being "on vacation every day", and said they enjoy perks including free laundry, food, and room service.
"Every day, I'm in a new place and my biggest decisions are whether I want to go to teatime, lie in the sun, or do a wine tasting," she said.
"When the pandemic hit in 2020, I lost my job because of organisational shifts. Now, I sail with my husband as a 'wife on board,' also known as a WOB. When we aren't living on a cruise ship, we call Vlissingen, Netherlands, home."
While living this high-life on water, Christine only has to fork out $20 (?15) a week for internet access and $10 (?7) a week on tips for her room steward - which is a bargain really, given that he cleans the room for her.??
"I try to keep our room tidy, but we also have a wonderful room steward who comes by each day," Christine explained.
He vacuums, changes the sheets, dusts, cleans our small bathroom, and leaves us fresh towels.?A room steward is a perk for high-ranking officers on the ship, and we choose to always leave a tip," she added.?
When it comes to food options, Christine explained that meals are free, but they spend extra on specialty restaurants.??
Well, we'd be lying if we said we aren't jealous.? ??
