Phobias are rational and can be really intense for some people. They control their lives and dictate every single action those people take. Emetophobia is one such phobia that involves?an extreme fear of vomiting, seeing vomit or watching other people vomit. It is a feeling of anxiety, sickness, or uneasiness one experiences whenever he or she sees vomit.?
It can be so intense for some people, it can totally change their lifestyle for the worse -?Emma Davies, a 35-year-old woman, is someone who has fought emetophobia for over a decade.?
Due to her fear of vomit, she has not stepped outside of her home for six years now.?Emma says she often suffers from panic attacks even though she is always homebound.?
"A lot of people are scared of sick or being sick, but it doesn't get to the point where it takes over their life," she said.?
¡°The depression has gotten to me so badly that I hardly leave my room. It takes over my life to the point where I can't go out - it's a lot more than just scared of (being) sick. It's constantly on my mind, it affects me every minute of the day," added the mother-of-two.?
Emma's phobia got out of hand about 12 years ago. She found vomit unpleasant since she was a kid but it became a phobia eventually.
"I started having panic attacks at work, which scared me a bit, and also on the bus on the way to work because I was feeling sick. It meant I had to leave work - which was hard because I had worked ever since I left school,¡± she was quoted by LadBible.?
Things got so bad that she started having six panic attacks in one day. She said that her attacks were triggered by everyday tasks most people perform without any problems.?The 35-year-old said she has taken various forms of therapy and psychotherapy to treat her condition, but nothing has worked so far.??
