It is the 21st century, times are changing and so is the way society thinks about women (even if the change is slow). From the first fight for basic rights, women have come a long way, and while there's still a lot more to do, progress, when see in real life, is always motivating.
Recently, the Ministry of Defence asked five Sainik schools to admit girls from the next batch. This comes after the pilot project of the Defence Ministry in Sainik School Chhingchhip, Mizoram, admitted six girl cadets into class 6, in June 2018.?

The decision was taken by the government to promote gender equality. The letter issued by the Sainik School Society, MoD mentions, ¡®Raksha Mantri has approved the admission of girl children (limited to 10% of total authorized intake into class 6) with effect from academic session 2020-21¡¯.?

The first Sainik school - Uttar Pradesh Sainik School - established in 1960, admitted 15 girl cadets in April 2018 in Class 9.?Students of Sainik Schools are called cadets, like the trainees of the pre-commission military academies.

Ministry of Defence issued instructions to the school principals to take steps to publicise the decision?through newspapers, websites and other means. The registration process will start online from November 26 and will last till December 6, 2019 (only for girls).
It has indeed taken while for something like this to be implemented, but we're glad it has happened. Here's hoping that more such positive changes will be seen in future too.
