Havildar Kashiray Bammanalli, who was martyred during an encounter with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir last year, has been awarded the Shaurya Chakra (posthumously) for?displaying exceptional courage and killing a terrorist in the operation.?

Havildar Kashiray,?of the?Corps of Engineers/44 Rashtra Rifles, made the supreme sacrifice during an encounter with terrorists?in J&K's Pulwama district.?Based on specific input regarding the presence of four to five terrorists in a village, a cordon and search operation was launched in the area on July 01, 2021.?
Havildar Kashiray Bammanalli was combat action team leader and laid a cordon towards the likely escape route along the orchards. While trying to flee, the terrorists lobbed?grenades and fired indiscriminately in the direction of Havildar Kashiray.?
He responded with the bravery we associate with the?Indian Army and accurately fired and pushed the terrorists back inside the house. The terrorists again tried to escape the spot and indiscriminately?started firing on Havildar Kashiray. Despite sustaining an injury to his chest, he eliminated one terrorist and saved the lives of his team members.?Havildar Kashiray made the supreme sacrifice during the incident.?
In addition to?Havildar Kashiray Bammanalli, five more?Army personnel have been named for Shaurya Chakras this year?by President Ram Nath Kovind.
Naib Subedar Sreejith M, Sena Medal, Havildar Anil Kumar Tomar, Havildar Pinku Kumar, Sepoy Maruprolu Jaswanth Kumar were awarded Shaurya Chakra Posthumously in counter-terrorist operations in Kashmir, Rifleman Rakesh Sharma was given for his act of bravery in counter-insurgency operation in Assam.??
