Doctors and nurses at the frontlines of the COVID-19 crisis have been working for 24 hours straight, not getting enough sleep and putting their own lives at risk to help patients.?
Despite their immense sacrifice, some people are ostracising them for handling infected patients. Some are reportedly even being kicked out of their rented accommodations by owners who fear they'll spread the disease.?
When Suchana Saha, a?final-year student at Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute in Kolkata, heard about instances of this kind of discrimination meted out medical professionals, who are no less than superheroes at this juncture, she was left heartbroken.?
Saha was determined to help these medical professional and according to a TOI report, she convinced her businessman father to rent out their two empty flats in Kolkata, absolutely rent-free for some doctors and nurses.?
She immediately put out a post on Facebook advertising the flat for doctors and had already received calls from medical professionals who have been stuck at hospitals and have no place to go.?
Speaking to TOI she said, "On Thursday, I asked my father if we could give them out?to accommodate displaced doctors and nurses treating COVID-1?patients. This will be our small contribution in the fight against the virus. We will not take any rent from boarders."
Her father?Pranab Kumar Saha was more than happy about his daughters philanthropic initiative for boycotted doctors and nurses. The flats which have not been used for six months were cleaned and sanitised by Suchana, her brother and a neighbour, all of whom ensured that it was comfortable for the incoming guests.?
This is kind of solidarity that we must display toward each other, instead of kicking up unnecessary hate and stigma and people like Suchana are setting a glorious example for us all to follow.?
