The onset of monsoon season in Mumbai as well as the rest of India has left locals in a bind. While getting much-needed relief from the throbbing heat was appreciated, the water-clogging issues in major cities have left a bitter taste in every local¡¯s mouth.
The Uran railway station in Navi Mumbai, which has not been inaugurated yet, became famous when heavy rains on July 6 made the subway area flood. A video of a group of locals swimming in the flooded subway went instantly viral on the internet. This raised concerns about the progress of the station and the ongoing delays in connecting Kharkopar station to the township.
In the viral video, three young men are seen diving into the pool of clogged rainwater in the station lobby. The men were clearly having the time of their lives. With ease, the men turned the flooded public railway station into their own personal swimming?pool, using it to dive and swim in the water.? ?
After the video became popular on Twitter, the Central Railway acknowledged the sticky situation. The authorities say that the building where the incident occurred is still under construction and not open to the public yet. Dr. Shivraj Manaspure, who is in charge of public relations for Central Railways, urged locals not to engage in such activities for the sake of their own safety.??
According to The Times of India, he told everyone that both the Central Railway and the construction authorities are toiling hard to finish the project and finally inaugurate the station. They want to prioritise the safety of future passengers and even be comfortable when using the railway station once it is open.
