Online job scams have become a widespread problem, and unfortunately, many people fall victim to them. However, one Bengaluru startup co-founder decided to take matters into her own hands when she received a suspicious job offer.
The co-founder, Udita Pal, shared her experience in a hilarious WhatsApp chat that quickly went viral. In the chat, she responds to the scammer's messages with witty comebacks and absurd requests, ultimately leading the scammer to give up and block her.
The co-founder's approach not only exposed the scam but also provided some much-needed comic relief in a stressful situation. She shared the chat on social media, hoping to raise awareness and prevent others from falling prey to similar scams.
Udita Pal, the co-founder of Saltpe, took this incident on Twitter with some screenshots and captioned it, "I¡¯m going to hell for this ?."
Devikar, a recruiter from Tarus Capital Company Limited in?Mumbai, was identified as the suspected fraudster. He requested that she watch a business YouTube video for 10 seconds, like it, and subscribe to the channel.
"You don't have to pay any fee, you just have to spend a few minutes on your mobile phone, and you will get one hundred and fifty!" the individual stated, making a Rs. 150 promise. and said that they would pay using UPI, a bank, or Paytm.
Pal agreed to follow the directions and asked which link she should like, and the person handed her three jobs, the fulfilment of which would earn her Rs 150. The first objective was watching their video for 10 seconds, liking and subscribing to their YouTube account, and sharing screenshots.
Pal posted a?screenshot, but it was a video headlined "Caught some I *** trying to scam." Pal requested that he give her half of the money and then proceed with the assignments. When the individual reminded her to do three duties, Pal made him another offer. "All right, another counteroffer for you... We both know you won't pay that money and are attempting to defraud... You're like the 15th person. Why don't you just apply for cold sales at my firm and share your LinkedIn with me?" However, the previous texts were not sent, so Pal questioned him if he had blocked her.
Udit posted this yesterday, and till now it has gotten over 89K views, 936 likes, and 42 retweets.
One user stated, "I'm inundated with these texts, kya chal raha hai?"
