Every day thousands of hungry, thirsty and tired migrants aretaking the arduous journey back to their villages on foot.
Ever since the lockdown was put in place, thousands of daily-wage labourers have left the cities for the villages wherethey were born, in reportedly one of the biggest mass movements of people in the countrysince the partition of India and Pakistan.
For most of the migrants walking the source of income wastheir daily wage in menial jobs and the lockdown upended their lives in theworst way possible.
Now, a heartbreaking picture shows the sorry plight of these migrantscontinuing their torturous journey back home in the searing Indian summer. It shows a little boy resting on a suitcase being wheeled by his mother.
The picture immediately struck a chord online and manystarted comparing it to the photo of three-year-old Syrian boy AylanKurdi whose body had washed ashore during the refugee crisis.
Walking with a small group on the Agra highway, the child looks evidentlyexhausted.?
On being asked why the group did not take the many buses started bythe government, the exhausted mother decided to stay quiet.
