Indians can be extremely obsessive when it comes to weddings and the hundreds of rituals and ceremonies that come with them. These rituals are often deeply rooted in patriarchy, often giving importance to the men in the family.?
Seeing as journalist Ria Chopra¡¯s sister was getting ready to walk down the aisle, her family made the extra effort to not leave her out in any of the rituals.

She continued, ¡°from holding the phoolon ki chaddar, to doing the tilak, to the pooja in the phere, we decided to include me wherever we could, and the result were some incredibly special and intimate moments that may not have been 'traditional' or 'proper' but they were right, and they felt right.¡±
Besides confronting the patriarchal rituals, the journalist also wrote heartwarming words for her sister, ¡°it has been a privilege to grow up with @sanjanachopraaa, to not have known a world where she does not exist, to have this exceptionally wise, steadfast, dedicated, unafraid, vibrant, utterly wonderful sister as my support system.¡±
Ria went on to add, ¡°She has watched me make mistakes, learn, and grow; she has stood by me in my successes and in my failures; she has saved me and loved me and held my hand through every bit of my twenty three years. my life and who i am would not be the same without her.¡±
