Employers across the world have been putting in a tremendous effort trying to determine the best way to appeal to their workers.
Companies like Microsoft in Japan recently?experimented with the four-day workweek as part of an effort?to help their employees achieve a better work-life balance. And its seemed to have worked wonders.
Apart from the four-day week schedule, the ultimate dream for anyone who is career-oriented would be to have a high paying job with unlimited leaves.?
Seems like one man is making this 'dream' come true for some people.?Dean Hall, who founded Rocketwerkz in 2015 became the boss of dreams for his employees.
Hall wanted to stand out from his competitors and set a standard in terms of work-life balance.
His model was to attract the best talent by offering them good pay and unlimited offs.
"You can have 30 people working on $20 million or $30m project so you're putting a lot of trust in them already. If you are trusting them with big projects and large amounts of money, why can't you trust them to manage their time as well? That's the point we started with," Hall told the Stuff.
Hall saw that some people willingly gave up family time to complete work. In order to deal with these workaholics, Dean started out with a compulsory four week off for all his employees.?
"You come in on December 23 and there's someone sitting at their desk and you say why are you here, why aren't you with your family, and they say they're saving leave up for the school holidays so they can take kids to Fiji. That's dumb," he said.
Hall said the idea of unlimited leave was to stop people turning up on days when it did not make sense for them to be there.
?CEO Hall wants his employees to work because they want to and not because they don't want to be in the office at some other time.?
The New Zealand-based business now has offices in Auckland and Dunedin, though Dean has since refined his unlimited leave policy after it didn't quite go as planned with some junior recruits.?
?He said, "For many, it was their first real job and it went one of two ways.?
For some, it worked fine but others needed structure, to be told the hours they needed to be at work."It can take one or two years before they start making value for the company and they need to get there by being at work and hearing what's happening."?
The best part about Hall's leave provisions was that he could?recruit creative people who were passionate about what they were doing and put their heart and soul on their work.
