Zomato is getting a fresh new identity! In a stock exchange filing on February 6, the company announced its official name change to Eternal. While the rebranding has been approved by the board, there's no need to panic〞the Zomato app will keep its name. However, the stock ticker will soon switch from Zomato to Eternal.
In a letter filed with the BSE, group CEO and co-founder Deepinder Goyal revealed the inspiration behind the company's name change to Eternal Ltd.
"When we acquired Blinkit, we started using 'Eternal' (instead of Zomato) internally to distinguish between the company and the brand/app,"?Goyal explained.?
He further stated that the decision to make the change public was tied to Zomato's evolving future.?
"We also thought that we would publicly rename the company to Eternal, the day something beyond Zomato became a significant driver of our future. Today, with Blinkit, I feel we are there."
While Zomato will continue as a brand, Eternal Ltd. will oversee four major businesses〞Zomato, Blinkit, District, and Hyperpure.
Goyal acknowledged the weight of the new name, saying, "Eternal is a powerful name, and to be honest, it scares me to my core. It is a tall order to live up to. Because 'Eternal' carries both a promise and a paradox."
He emphasised that this is more than just a rebrand. "This isn't just a name change; it is a mission statement. A reminder etched into our identity that we will endure 〞 not because we are here, but because we need to get there."
A Reddit thread discussing the name change had one user bluntly remark, "True, Zomato is so iconic. Eternal is whatever."
Zomato is now "ETERNAL" I mean WHY?

Meanwhile, over on X, someone joked, "I guess we finally have an answer to the Zo-maa-to vs. Zo-ma-to debate! Turns out, it's neither〞it's Eternal now."
And of course, desi humour never disappoints, with another user quipping, "Apno ko deals milti rahni chahiye bas, fir chahe Eternal karo ya Fragile." (As long as we keep getting discounts, call it Eternal or Fragile〞who cares?)
